1. Two natural variants

Pinctada maxima exists in two color variants:

• zilver-lipped — produces white parels with subtiel pink and zilveren ondertonen. Australische and Indonesische origin.
• goud-lipped — produces golden parels from champagne to deep 24K-tone yellow. Filipijnse and Indonesische origin.

Both are the same species; the color difference comes from natural mantle pigments.
